UDOT is constructing a new bridge that will span the Jordan River, UPRR rail, UTA rail, South Jordan Canal, and the Jordan and Salt Lake Canal. This project is the last segment required to connect Porter Rockwell Boulevard to Redwood Road and 14600 South.

Major elements of this project include a multi-lane bridge, realignment of the Jordan River Trail, two canal box culverts, a multi-use trail, and a roadway connecting the adjacent Porter Rockwell Boulevard segments.

This project is following the design-build project delivery method. This method enables UDOT and the contractor to collaborate on project design and encourages innovation and efficiency at all phases of the project. Construction of the Porter Rockwell Bridge started fall 2020 with anticipated completion in spring 2022.

During construction, residents can expect:

  • Increased truck traffic along Porter Rockwell Boulevard
  • Some noise and dust
  • Temporary closure and realingment of the Jordan River Trail

Project Schedule

  • Fall 2018 – Winter 2019 | Project development phase
  • Spring 2020 – Summer 2020 | Contractor selected and design finalized
  • Fall 2020 | Construction begins
  • Spring 2022 | Anticipated end of construction

Jordan River Trail Impacts and Detour

Because the bridge construction will impact the Jordan River Trail, UDOT has installed a temporary trail and is redirecting trail users to the detour while construction is underway. This detour will be in place from fall 2020 to spring 2022.

While construction is underway, access to the Jordan River will also be restricted. In order to maintain safety, water recreation through the area and access to the river will not be permitted.
